Sustraiak - Our Basque Roots
Ontario, Oregon Basque Club’s Sustraiak Project aims to provide members with education and support to help them research and document the histories of their Basque ancestors, and serve as a repository for collected materials. Our goal is to learn more about the backgrounds of the families that make up our Basque community in order to preserve these stories for future generations and gain a better understanding of our collective past. In addition to collecting immigration narratives, Sustraiak helps local Basques trace their genealogies, in some cases, back to the sixteenth century Basque Country.
